Connecting Google Search Console

Real search data unlocks keyword-informed rewrites and precise impact measurement. Connect GSC in 90 seconds. Most common issue: you skip this step.

Why Google Search Console Matters

Without GSC, EcomIQX infers keywords from your product content. With GSC, EcomIQX uses your actual search query data. This is the difference between guessing and knowing.

What Changes When You Connect GSC

  • Keyword coverage becomes accurate: We see which search queries actually bring impressions to your products, not guesses based on content analysis.
  • Rewrites become keyword-informed: When you rewrite a product, the AI knows which real search queries should target it and optimizes for those.
  • Gap analysis becomes actionable: We identify high-volume queries you rank for poorly (low CTR) or do not rank for at all.
  • Prioritization becomes obvious: Products with high impressions but low CTR are the highest-impact rewrite targets.

Teams that connect GSC see 2-3x faster impact from keyword-focused rewrites.

Step-by-Step Connection

Step 1: Navigate to Connectors

Go to Settings → Connectors. You will see a list of available integrations (Google Search Console, Google Merchant Center, Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.).

Step 2: Click "Add Google Search Console"

Click the GSC tile or "Add Connector" and select "Google Search Console".

Step 3: Authorize

Click "Authorize with Google". You will be taken to Google Login. Sign in with the Google account that owns your Search Console property.

Step 4: Grant Permissions

Google will ask: "EcomIQX wants to access your Google Search Console data." The required permissions are:

  • Read access to Search Console properties
  • Read search analytics data (queries, clicks, impressions, positions)

Click "Allow". EcomIQX does not request write access (we do not modify your GSC or Google Search Console).

Step 5: Select Your Property

You will be taken back to EcomIQX. A dropdown shows all Search Console properties attached to your Google account. Select the property matching your domain (e.g., example.com).

If you have multiple properties (www.example.com vs example.com, or subdomain.example.com), select the one matching your ecommerce catalog.

Step 6: Confirm and Connect

Click "Connect". EcomIQX now has permission to read your GSC data.

Step 7: Wait for Initial Sync

First sync takes 24-48 hours. During this time, EcomIQX is pulling 90 days of historical search data from GSC and matching queries to your products.

You will see a notification when sync is complete. Initial sync processes:

  • All search queries that brought impressions to your site in the last 90 days
  • Click counts, impressions, and average position for each query
  • Matching of queries to specific products (by URL)
  • Keyword coverage scoring for each product

What Data Syncs

From Google Search Console

  • Search queries: Every keyword someone typed into Google that brought traffic to your site
  • Impressions: How many times a search result for your site showed in Google results for that query
  • Clicks: How many times someone clicked on your search result
  • Average position: What ranking position you were at for that query (1 = top of search results)
  • Date range: Last 90 days (rolling window)

After First Sync

EcomIQX continues syncing daily. New search queries, ranking changes, and CTR changes flow in automatically every 24 hours.

Data Retained

EcomIQX stores 90 days of rolling Search Console data. Historical data is aggregated for trend analysis (e.g., "this query averaged 5 impressions/day last quarter").

After Connection: What to Expect

Keywords Page Updates

Go to Keywords. You will now see:

  • Real search volume: Impressions per day (not guesses)
  • CTR: Click-through rate (clicks / impressions) — shows which keywords convert searches to site visits
  • Average position: Where you rank for each query
  • Query-to-product matching: Which products are tagged with which search queries

Keyword Gaps Page

Go to Keywords → Gaps. You will see high-volume queries with low CTR (opportunities to improve ranking) and high-volume queries you do not rank for at all (big opportunities).

Rewrite Recommendations Update

Recommended rewrites now prioritize products with:

  • High search volume (10,000+ impressions from target queries)
  • Low CTR (ranking but not getting clicks)
  • Falling rankings (position declining week-over-week)

Score Updates

Keyword coverage scoring becomes much more accurate. Products targeting actual high-volume queries score higher. Products targeting vanity keywords score lower.

Troubleshooting

Connection Succeeds but No Keywords Appear

Most common cause: Data takes 24-48 hours to sync. Wait and check again tomorrow.

If still no data after 48 hours: Check that your GSC property has data (go to Google Search Console directly and verify you see impressions/clicks). If GSC is empty, your site has not been indexed or is getting no organic traffic yet.

Connection Shows "Permission Denied"

Cause: The Google account you logged in with does not own the GSC property.

Solution: Sign out, log back in with the Google account that owns the property, and retry authorization.

My Site Is Not Verified in Google Search Console

GSC requires domain ownership verification. If you have not done this:

  1. Go to Google Search Console (search.google.com/search-console)
  2. Click "Start now" and add your domain
  3. Verify ownership (via DNS, HTML file, or other methods)
  4. Once verified, return to EcomIQX and retry the connection

I See Keywords but They Do Not Match My Products

Cause: Product URL matching is off. If your product URLs changed or do not match what GSC sees, queries will not attach correctly.

Solution: Check that your product URLs in EcomIQX exactly match the URLs in your live store (including trailing slashes, query parameters, etc.). Fix any mismatches and re-sync.

My GSC Has Data but Keyword Scores Did Not Update

Solution: Go to Settings → Connectors and manually trigger a sync. Alternatively, wait for the next automatic daily sync (usually runs at 2 AM your timezone).

Next Steps

After GSC is connected and synced:

  1. Go to Keywords → Gaps. Find the top 5 high-volume gaps (queries with 100+ impressions/month that you do not rank for).
  2. Identify 5-10 products that should target those keywords.
  3. Run rewrites on those products with focus on the gap keywords.
  4. Track these products in your Keywords page for ranking improvement (check again in 3-4 weeks).
